National Chapter Unification and Chapter Updates
Dear SSWLHC Member,
First, thank you for your membership, support and involvement with the Society for Social Work Leadership in Health Care (SSWLHC). Without your dedication, we could not accomplish our vision to be the premiere national and international professional organization and voice for social work leadership and leadership development in healthcare.
By now we hope that you are aware of the transition in process to unify our chapter and national memberships into a single-dues payment system tha t will be implemented on January 1, 2010. This process began two years ago when the SSWLHC Board appointed an initial task force to explore the feasibility of a unified system for SSWLHC. After much information gathering, dialogue and input from members, the task force recommended and the SSWLHC Board voted in January 2008 to move forward with the unification of the SSWLHC membership. Since early 2008, an appointed task force consisting of Chapter Presidents, SSWLHC Board Members and Past-Presidents (known as the National Chapter Structure Task Force) was charged with the responsibility to research, develop, and implement a unified membership model for SSWLHC.
Over the past several months, the National Chapter Structure Task Force has intensely listened to the concerns expressed by members and chapters regarding the increased cost versus the perceived value of a unified or single SSWLHC membership. Additionally, the task force has worked in close consultation with legal and accounting experts to help the chapters understand the requirements and processes that are necessary to remain an affiliate chapter of SSWLHC. Chapters are required to communicate their intent to sign an affiliation agreement with national by September 1, 2009.
We recognize that many national SSWLHC members are also members of chapters, and most likely have discussed the implications of unification at the chapter level. As a national professional membership organization our focus is on our members. You are the reason we exist and our efforts are always focused on how we can best serve you. While it is our hope that chapters will choose to affiliate with the national SSWLHC in this unification process, we want you to know that it is our true hope that every one of you will maintain your SSWLHC membership, regardless of your chapter’s decision.
Again, we appreciate your membership and look forward to your continued participation. Our focus will remain the interests of our members…we hope to include you in this group!
